SUMMARY
Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells and various industry parts by performing the following duties:

- Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job.
- Plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
- Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together
- Fabricates product by cutting, burning and welding various metals.
- Repairs and/or builds product by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
- Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded.
- Sets up, assembles, and welds parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc or gas welding equipment.
- Builds up worn or defective surfaces.
- Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
- Repairs product by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and/or assembling parts using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
- Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- High school or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Completion of formal vocational-tech program or completion of in-company training to satisfaction of supervisor or 3-5 years of documented work in field of applicant.
- Must be able to pass a welder qualification test per code of construction; 3 position, 1" plate test with a backing bar using flux core wire.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; extreme heat and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Work involves varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable. Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing work.
