Objective of the Job:
This position is an experienced, qualified Cold Mill Welder Maintenance Technician responsible for the overall Mechanical and Electrical equipment efficiency, performance, and availability as it pertains to the Cold Mill Welder(s) at Big River Steel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed.
2) Analyzes reasons for production disturbances within the welder equipment
3) Provide RCA analysis along with preventive plan measures to continually increase equipment availability and performance
4) Creates and develops Preventive Maintenance Plans within the Guide -Ti system
5) Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of unscheduled maintenance issues with the welder as well as all line equipment
6) Reviews incoming Job Notifications in Guide-Ti and prioritizes as needed based on Safety, Environmental, Quality and Line Performance Metrics
7) Researches, Develops, and Coordinates Work Orders through completion from Guide-Ti system
8) Observes safety, review accident/incident reports and assist in investigations as required
9) Responsible for meeting or exceeding individual performance metrics provided by BRS Management
10) Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level
11) Assists in development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures for the laser welder equipment 12) Prepares and presents reports and findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information trends
13) Responsible for scheduling, planning and execution of short and long-term maintenance activities including securing approval for cost
14) Coordinates, trains, and leads maintenance technicians/operations if necessary for special tasks and responsibilities (Continuous Improvement Training of Team)
15) Supports management in optimizing quality, cost, availability, and performance of equipment
16) Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by fostering an environment that embodies trust and respect
17) Performs daily rounds of the welder and entry equipment that affect the welder’s reliability
18) Able to proficiently use precision measurement tools
19) Work closely with mechanical, electrical, operations, and contractor team as needed.
20) Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on complex electrical and mechanical equipment, including PLCs, control circuits, communication systems, I/O field devices, VFD drives/motors
21) Install and modify electrical/mechanical equipment following code, manuals, schematic diagrams, drawings, and other specifications with minimal instruction after assignment is understood
22) Coordinate BRS, contractor, and vendor activities to install or modify equipment
Qualifications:
1) Demonstrated focus on safety and willingness to proactively apply it in a team environment.
2) Quality and Detail oriented individual with a strong Technical Background and Analytical Problem Solving skills.
3) Technical knowledge of a) Rotational equipment; mechanical power transmission, drive shafts, bearings, couplings b) Hydraulic systems; cylinders, servo valves, piping, hose connections, filtration, etc. c) Lubrication systems; centralized oil and grease systems, lubrication practices, etc.
4) Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
5) Demonstrates strong interpersonal communications skills, written and verbal
6) Demonstrates strong work ethic and displays a high degree of professionalism
7) Reliable Team leader/Technician with good Communication Skills.
8) Highly Motivated, Self-Directed, and willing to put in extra effort when needed.
9) Demonstrates equipment knowledge including quality camera system software along with all operating functions on the CR Welder(s)
10) Experience reading Mechanical blueprints, electrical diagrams, working on Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Power Transmission Sys.
11) Ability to use MS Excel, Word, and Outlook proficiently, and knowledge of CMMS system.
12) HS diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or technical certificates in related field is preferred.
13) 3 years minimum experience in heavy industrial environment with emphasis going to steel mill. Experience will take into account military, university, apprenticeship time or a combination.
14) Ability to proficiently weld stick at minimum
15) Must be able to work with the metric system
16) Knowledge of programming and troubleshooting logic to include ladder logic, function block programming (Logicad and Step 7)
17) Have working knowledge and understanding of the Assets process
18) Understand the Assets quality statement and goals
19) Previous experience with NFPA 70E safe work practices
20) Strong working knowledge of 480-volt 3 phase electrical distribution systems and motor control
21) Advanced PLC programing experience (Siemens preferred).
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
1) Environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas
2) Physically demanding work will be required in the production environments
3) Scheduled work hours are day shift Monday through Friday, however additional hours in a week, nights and weekends may be required at times
4) May be required to perform on call duties at times nights and weekends and holidays if necessary
5) Will be required to attend meetings and be engaged with special teams
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
