Pay Range
$39.98 - $49.65 Hourly for the 538.2 level
$47.93 - $59.49 Hourly for the 538.3 level
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
We have an opening for a Technical Coordinator. You will be responsible for work control functions and support related to the safe and efficient operation of facilities operated by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory which may include offices, industrial facilities, and scientific and research laboratories. You will perform technical and administrative duties in support of tenants, facility maintenance, construction projects, sponsor deliverables, and facility operations or similar facility support activities. This position is in the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
This position will be filled at either the 538.2 or 538.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
In this role you will
- Provide general technical coordination support for work control functions including plan and coordinate manpower, facility activities, and materials/equipment acquisition support and solve moderately complex technical problems.
- Interact with facility management, service providers, and facility tenants on day-to-day service needs for offices, industrial facilities, and scientific and research laboratories. Review and clarify scope of work requests for maintenance and repair.
- Coordinate and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks associated with facility related activities of crafts, contractors, vendors, project managers, construction managers, Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) teams, Radioactive & Hazardous Waste Management, Environmental Functional Area, and residents.
- Coordinate the procurement, installation, modification, and repair of equipment and facilities.
- Conduct facility assessments, walkthroughs, inspections, and work observations for compliance with security, ES&H policies, and good housekeeping practices; assist in annual space utilization and storm water pollution protection surveys; report issues to the facility manager and program personnel; correct hazards or potential hazards when authorized to do so.
- Monitor and respond to facility alarms and emergencies during normal business hours.
- Implement established roof access processes using various communication mechanisms: verbal, written, and electronic.
- Update key plans, report new equipment installation locations and provide warranty and operation manual information on new equipment to the Documentation & Permits Group.
- Promote and support plans to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the 538.3 level
- Act as a primary point of contact between facility management, service providers, and facility tenants on day-to-day service needs for laboratory and critical services facilities.
- Provide advanced technical coordination support through specialized technical and administrative knowledge by independently planning, initiating, and coordinating the scheduling of complex maintenance, and leading project teams to install or maintain equipment.
- Propose solutions for improvement of building issues or projects and ensure technical and safety guidelines, standards, specifications, and procedures are implemented.
- Anticipate and reconcile support problems including technical factors affecting critical milestones, developing solutions to resolve moderately complex technical problems and collaborate with technical project personnel to develop appropriate solutions.
- This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
- Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience, with some related experience in the field of facility management.
- Intermediate knowledge of building systems and utility systems in office, industrial, and/or laboratory facilities.
- Working knowledge of safety practices as they apply to office and industrial facilities.
- Experience solving moderately complex technical problems and ability to make decisions, when necessary, with the assistance of established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
- Proficient with personal computers and standard software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, calendars) and web browsers.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively and respectfully with co-workers, building residents, other internal organizations
- Proven interest and ability to independently and proactively acquire new knowledge and skills.
Additional qualifications at the 538.3 level
- Advanced understanding and experience in the field of facility management.
- Advanced knowledge of building systems and utility systems in office, industrial, or laboratory facilities. Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and utility drawings.
- Advanced verbal and written communications skills to interact effectively with co-workers, building residents, management, other internal organizations, vendors, outside suppliers, and contractors.
- Advanced knowledge of safety and security practices as they apply to specialized, and hazard ranked facilities.
Qualifications We Desire
- Significant experience with facility maintenance, construction trades, or building operations.
- Significant experience initiating and coordinating work orders; assessing maintenance and repair needs.
- Knowledge of Vault Type Room (VTR) operations and procedures.
- Experience working in a classified environment.
- Experience maintaining TESA and ARGUS databases and/or experience using Filemaker Pro Databases.
- Demonstrated ability/commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in the workplace.

Site 300
Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).
Security Clearance
This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
