About the Job
The Biobehavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities (BMED) lab is seeking to hire an entry level lab technician with a specific interest in immunology and/or cellular biology to be responsible for assisting in receiving, processing, storing, and analyzing immunological biomarkers. In the BMED Wet Lab we specifically focus on analysis of cytokines and markers of cellular energy in leukocytes from peripheral blood. The lab technician will accept instruction from a Laboratory Manager, and the lab's principal investigators to determine priorities. This is a one-year term limited position with the possibility of extension based upon need and available funding.
T he ideal candidate will have just completed their bachelor's degree or be in the process of completing their degree, and have some wet lab or research experience.
Salary
$15 - $17/hour
Essential Functions
- Receiving, labeling, and safely storing blood samples to be tested in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
- Analyzing blood samples to obtain health biomarker data
- Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment
- Maintaining daily work logs
- Interacts and takes direction from lab manager and to ensure adequate preparation and supplies are available for use

- Detail oriented and good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines, analytical and organization skills
Required Qualifications
- HS diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or working on a Bachelor's degree
- Related wet laboratory and/or research experience
- Successfully completed one or more post-secondary courses with a laboratory requirement
Skills Preferred
- Experience conducting standard wet laboratory procedures
- Experience handling biological specimens
