As an intern you will learn about and work on APIs one week, power plants and the grid the next, then data visualization and advocacy after that. You’ll achieve a hybrid approach to energy economics, financial data, and visual tools. You’ll write code and build charts that explain Texas’s power last year, today, and tomorrow.
You will be trusted to: - Works with analysts and stakeholders to create compelling energy market data visualizations to help drive decision making. - Performs analysis and provides sustainable visualization solutions to deliver effective data storytelling. This position develops competence by performing structured work assignments and receives instruction, guidance and direction from supervisor, manager and/or more experienced colleagues. - 2 days in-office per week. Must live within 50 miles of Austin, Tx. - Mines and synthesizes data across internal and external sources to address business opportunities and discover meaningful energy market trends. Collaborates with both business and IT partners to identify key use cases and define associated requirements. - Gathers, scrubs, analyzes, and helps visualize data. Uses programming to automate data gathering from internal and external sources. - Transforms data into actionable, succinct, and persuasive visual graphics. - Translates data to write compelling stories that explain complex concepts. - Determines the needs and possibilities for graphics and statistical visualizations. - Leverages research and writing skills in partnering with internal teams to build business strategies and presentations. - Performs statistical analysis to mine data for relevancy and context. - Utilizes data visualization programs, tools and techniques to generate dashboards, reports and presentations that aid in data storytelling, understanding and interpretation of trends and patterns of business importance. - Assists in retrieving, analyzing and summarizing business, operations, customer and/or economic data in order to develop business intelligence, optimize effectiveness and/or predict business outcomes. - Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns and prepares ongoing reports and data visualizations (e.g., charts, dashboards, heat maps) to support business decisions. |
You qualify with: - Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent. - Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university/college program in junior year or has completed junior year and will be starting senior year. You are a great fit with: - Skill in designing and delivering business-oriented presentations - Skilled in querying and manipulating large datasets for analysis and visualization using SQL, Python, and python libraries such as Pandas, Matplotlib, Bokeh, Plotly, and others - Experience with visualization and design tools such as Snowflake, Power BI, Oracle Data Visualization, or others - Knowledge of statistical methods - Strong written and verbal communication skills |
