About the Job
Seeking a highly focused, self-motivated, outgoing individual for our Wildlife Education Specialist position. The Wildlife Education Specialist provides animal care and executes Wildlife Education Program presentation. Provides training and oversight to program members who attend Day Program and when attending Wildlife Education Programs.
Job Duties Include:
Ø Provides animal training, teaching and daily direction to Volunteers, Interns, Program Members and Day Program Assistants as assigned.
Ø Executes Wildlife Education Programs and events as assigned to the satisfaction of the customer.
Ø Implements compliance of all government regulations and organization policies and procedures as they apply to the operation of the Wildlife Education Program.
Ø Implements care, well-being and training of the program animals. Communicates change in animal behavior and health to the Director immediately.
Ø Implements the Wildlife Education Programs, including preparation of animals transported to/from events as well as providing oversight to program members at the event as needed.
Ø Handles all program animals in a safe manner; handling animals when necessary related to the care of the animals, not for socialization and/or “play” purposes, unless directed by the Wildlife Education Program Director.
Ø Provides housekeeping of the animal program area; vacuuming, cleaning and general upkeep as needed. Including cleaning of all crates and equipment following return from programs.
Ø Maintains a positive, professional demeanor when working with consumers, families, staff, and community resource/service providers.
Ø Communicates regularly with organization personnel regarding issues/concerns.
Ø Performs other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Program Director and/or Chief Executive Officer.

Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent; Zoology or related field preferred;
OR NYS Licensed Veterinary Technician;
OR the equivalent of 4 years' experience working with and managing exotic and native wildlife as well as experience
teaching informal/formal educational settings.
Work Experience: Minimal 1 year experience working with and managing exotic and native wildlife. Minimal 1 year experience teaching in an informal/formal educational setting and developing/delivering educational programs to the public.
Demonstrates experience in standardized husbandry skills, including animal handling, transport, acclimation and care, management of safety protocols, quarantine and clinical treatments, behavioral and environmental enrichment.
License(s) Required: Valid NYS Driver's License
Licensed Veterinary Technician Certificate a PLUS
