Wireless Operational Support Engineer-The position will support the Los Angeles Area.
Position Summary: The Wireless Operational Support Engineer is responsible for the configuration, troubleshooting, and management of wireless networks, with a focus on Cisco and HP/Aruba technologies. The role requires a deep understanding of wireless infrastructure, network protocols, and security systems. The engineer will act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and ensure network operations run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
Wireless Infrastructure Configuration and Troubleshooting:
- Independently configure and troubleshoot Cisco and/or HP/Aruba Wireless Controllers and Access Points.
- Effectively configure and resolve issues with AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting) systems, especially with HP/Aruba ClearPass.
- Manage, upgrade, and utilize network monitoring tools like Aruba/HP Airwave on VMware platforms.
Network Protocols:
- Troubleshoot complex routing and switch protocols such as BGP and MPLS.
- Utilize wireless spectrum analyzers to monitor and diagnose wireless network performance issues.
Technical Support:
- Serve as an escalation point for lower-level engineers, providing expert guidance and technical support.
- Configure various networking and telecommunications equipment.
- Analyze and resolve diverse wireless and networking problems.
Network and IT Systems Review:
- Review and evaluate IT system designs for compliance with industry standards.
- Prepare technical documentation and clear, concise reports for stakeholders.
- Communicate ideas effectively both in writing and orally.
Incident Management:
- Update and manage incident tickets and work orders in Remedy system.
- Utilize Microsoft Outlook and Teams for regular communication and collaboration.
Network Equipment Management:
- Install and configure network modules, cards, and Cat6e/Fiber patch cords.
- Rearrange and manage network equipment as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve LAN and WAN issues.
Training and Mentorship:
- Provide training to lower-level engineers to help them grow in their roles.
Operational Flexibility:
- Work off-hours to resolve urgent operational issues when necessary.
Collaboration:
- Maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and other organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong expertise in Cisco and/or HP/Aruba Wireless Controllers and Access Points.
- Experience with AAA systems such as HP/Aruba ClearPass.
- Proficiency in using Aruba/HP Airwave network monitoring tools on VMware platforms.
- Excellent understanding of routing protocols (BGP, MPLS) and hands-on troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with Wireless Spectrum analyzers.
- Experience configuring various networking and telecommunications equipment.
Preferred Certifications:
- Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or Aruba/HP ClearPass certifications are highly preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and a valid California Driver’s License.
- Willingness to travel using a personal vehicle.
