Bishop Woodcraft is seeking a dedicated and experienced Woodworking Machine Mill Operator to join our team. As a Woodworking Machine Mill Operator, you will play a key role in the production of high-quality wood products by operating machinery, shaping raw materials, and ensuring that all safety standards are met. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for woodworking, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Who we are:
- Operating Machinery:
- Safely operate saws, planers, sanders, drills, and other wood processing machinery.
- Ensure all safeguards are used, and follow training protocols for each machine.
- Cutting and Shaping Wood:
- Cut and shape raw wood materials into specific sizes using saws and other tools.
- Inspecting Wood Products:
- Inspect wood products for defects such as knots, cracks, or imperfections, ensuring they meet quality standards.
- Stacking and Storing:
- Sort, stack, and store processed wood materials, ensuring proper labeling and organization.
- Use forklifts or other equipment to move materials when necessary.
- Maintaining Equipment and Work Areas:
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery and tools to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, sweeping or vacuuming daily.
- Following Safety Procedures:
- Adhere to all safety protocols, wearing protective gear such as gloves, ear, and eye protection as required.
- Report any unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or damaged safety gear to the Mill Manager.
- Communication:
- Communicate with the Mill Manager about any unsafe situations, broken equipment, or questions about the milling process.
- Physical Demands:
- Safely lift materials up to 50 pounds and ask for assistance when needed.
- Stand for long periods and handle physical demands associated with milling work.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that all finished wood products meet the highest quality standards.
- Make necessary adjustments to machinery to achieve desired outcomes.
- General Duties:
- Use a personal vehicle to pick up materials and supplies as needed (mileage will be reimbursed).
- Occasionally perform on-site milling work.
- Assist with cleaning and organizing the shop, and participate in daily training as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Experience operating woodworking machinery such as saws, planers, and drills.
- Knowledge of wood species and wood processing techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation, preferred but not necessary. We are located right next to a TRAX station.
