The typical starting salary range for this role ($90,000 - $115,000) is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

This role is primarily remote except for required appearances.

We have an exciting opportunity for a remote (with occasional travel to venues) Workers' Compensation Attorney. You will be handling a caseload of workers’ compensation matters, conduct depositions, and represent Liberty Mutual and its policyholders at WC hearings in the state of California. You will also interact with Liberty Mutual’s Workers’ Compensation claims organization.

Responsibilities:
- Use Litigation Protocols to develop and revise appropriate legal strategy for discovery, investigation, handling and trial/hearing of cases or matters
- Responsible for appearances before workers' compensation boards, conducting depositions, drafting and filing summations, appeals and rebuttals.
- Research the law applicable to cases or matters; drafts legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs and opinions as required. If requested, conduct settlement negotiations.
- Advise, communicate and confer with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients, rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and advice. Personally meet with and maintain good relations and communications with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients as required.
- Remain current with developments in the law; understand medical, scientific, construction, products, engineering or similar issues and defenses involved with cases or matters.
- Prepare and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims or other departments as required.
- Understand and creatively use technology; apply technology to the process of law to improve quality and reduce cost.
- Interface with Home Office Legal department.
What you’ve got:
Experience
- Membership in the California Bar
- Appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts preferred
- A minimum of three years’ experience as an attorney

Knowledge
- Familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law, as well as pertinent knowledge in related fields
- Familiarity with insurance and workers’ compensation law
- Proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work
Education
- A JD degree
