Wound Care Nurse (RN/LPN)
The primary purpose of the Wound Care Nurse is to provide each of your residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with each resident’s assessments and care plan and as may be directed by your supervisors. The distinctive role of a Wound Care Nurse is a nurse who specializes in the care of patients with wounds, ostomies, or continence disorders. Nurses in wound care management work with patients who have gastrointestinal stomas for feeding tubes or colostomy bags, skin ulcers, drains, surgical incisions, or pressure sores.
Wound Care Nurse Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility
- Evaluates the skin surface of at-risk patients such as bed ridden elderly individuals to prevent decubitus ulcers
Provides treatment protocols to ward off skin irritation and infection for wounds that may not heal well, because of other medical problems, such as diabetes or poor circulation - Ensures that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility
- Cooperates with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained
- Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary
- nterprets restorative care policies and procedures to personnel, residents, family members, etc., as necessary
- Assists the Administrator and/or HR Director in the recruitment and selection of competent restorative care personnel
- Provides direct nursing care as necessary and as department needs may dictate.
- Ensures that all restorative care notes are informative and descriptive of the treatment provided and of the resident’s response to the care
Wound Care Nurse Education and Experience Requirements:
- Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of MI
- Previous experience in long-term care is preferred
- Compassionate and empathetic personality
