About the Role & Program
WPVI-TV is an ABC-owned television station (OTVS) located in a state-of-the-art facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 6abc/Action News, is Philadelphia's #1 source for news! For more than 50 years Action News has been bringing the biggest stories of the day to viewers in the Delaware Valley, an area covering Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey, currently representing more than 8 million people!
What You Will Do
We crafted this internship to provide our intern with a general understanding of the many facets of Community Engagement and long-form content creation within the fast-paced media industry.
As an intern on our team, you will work in a professional environment and will gain hands-on experience. You will be exposed to initiatives and events we originate at 6abc. You will also be provided with a view of all aspects of television long-form production and operations of the Community Engagement department. You will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market television station.
As our intern, some of your projects with the WPVI-TV (6abc) Community Engagement team may include:
+ Assist with planning, prep and execution of the station’s campaigns, initiatives and events
+ Assist with the station’s LIVE and taped long-form productions
+ Create social media and digital content
+ Write PSAs & digital copy for the website
+ Attend community engagement meetings (virtual & in-person)
+ Coordinate outreach with the 6abc community and corporate partners (schedule meetings, zoom calls etc... etc.)
+ Connecting with community-based non-profit organizations, and the communities that 6abc serves and supports
Required Qualifications & Skills
+ A curiosity about pursuing a career in television/multi-media field
+ Proficient in video editing using Adobe Premier
+ Proficient in shooting video footage using Cannon/Nikon DSLR cameras
+ Strong, ongoing knowledge of long-form TV & video production
+ Social media proficiency.
+ Good news judgment and effective communication skills
+ Ability & flexibility to manage & prioritize multiple assignments in a highly dynamic, fast-paced environment
+ Has attention to detail
+ Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
+ Prior experience working in an office setting, including answering emails
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in community engagement, corporate citizenship & social responsibility, event planning, urban development, or social media/branding a plus.
+ Prior TV or Video production internship
+ Major or previous coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Business Administration, or related major
Education
+ Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
+ Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
+ Be at least 18 years of age
+ Possess unrestricted work authorization
+ Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
Additional Information
+ Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
+ The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 through June 2025
+ Fully available to work for the duration of the internship, 20 hours each week
+ Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Philadelphia, PA. area
+ Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
