### Position Summary
The Writer/Editor will serve as an integral part of the Marketing and Communications team. As part of the storytelling unit, the Writer/Editor will create content for MSU College of Law. Content will vary in subject matter and medium, and the Writer/Editor will proactively seek out story opportunities among faculty, staff, alumni, and students. From faculty research to student success stories, they will develop materials for many audiences, including undergraduate students considering law school, mid-career professionals developing a new subset of expertise, and alumni with decades of experience in legal practice.
The Writer/Editor must be motivated to collaborate in an energetic and creative environment. The Marketing and Communications team consists of a senior director, a digital communications manager, graphic designer, a web developer, and student assistants. The Writer/Editor will report to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications. They will be responsible for managing their own projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Writes copy as a cross-functional content creator for the College of Law.
1. - Contributes stories to the College of Law's regular editorial plan, including e-newsletters, digital stories, MSUToday pieces, and more.
- Writes alumni, faculty, and student profiles.
- Drafts recruitment content for academic programs.
- Writes news stories and press releases.
Edits and fact-checks copy for all College of Law materials created by the Marketing and Communications Office team members and for a wide range of internal clients.
Conducts frequent outreach (in-person and Zoom interviews) with students, alumni, and friends of the College of Law.
Performs project management duties (including managing design work, coordinating digital releases, and collaborating with clients on multi-stage review process) in a progressively more responsible manner.
Provides coverage and content support for various social media platforms.

Michigan State University College of Law is a diverse and inclusive learning community with roots dating to 1891 when it opened as Detroit College of Law in Detroit, Michigan. It moved to its current East Lansing location in 1995 and remained a private institution until 2020 when it became a fully integrated college of Michigan State University.
Today, MSU Law has more than 650 students, 55 faculty members, 50 staff members, five librarians, and a world-wide network of some 11,500 alumni. MSU Law operates seven legal clinics overseen by nationally recognized faculty that provide students an opportunity to work on actual legal cases.
