About the Job
We are looking for an Applications Engineer or Applications Scientist to join our scientific team, working on our x-ray absorption spectroscopy products. Applications Engineers collaborate with our customers, who are among the top scientists in the world, to characterize and understand their samples. They learn how to operate our systems, optimize the acquisition parameters, and create reports on the results of the experiments. They also travel to customer sites (located worldwide) and give presentations on the results at international conferences.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have beamline experience with setting up experiments with minimal guidance from beamline scientists, or is a beamline scientist
- Understand the working principles of x-ray absorption spectroscopy, x-ray emission spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, or infrared spectroscopy
- Experience in operando experiments and electrochemistry
- Produce scientific presentations on results of spectra acquired by Sigray's systems
- Develop processes and workflows to optimize the quality of results acquired on the system
- Follow up with potential and existing customers to improve system performance and develop collaborations with scientists with an eye toward producing publications
- Analyze the data collected using existing packages
- Provide feedback to the systems engineering team on system improvements
- Write technical marketing collateral and create images/videos through analysis software
- Conduct advanced training sessions for customers either on-site or by traveling to the customer site

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Engineering required (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, or Materials Science)
- Master's/Ph.D./Work experience is a plus
- Must be able to travel for the position both domestically and internationally at least 50% – 75% of the time

Sigray is a rapidly growing startup based in Concord, CA, that manufactures X-ray sources, optics, and systems. The X-ray systems include X-ray spectroscopy, microfluorescence, and nano- and micro- computed tomography, as well as several unreleased instruments under active development. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of instrumentation design and programming of motion control systems.
The company was started by Dr. Wenbing Yun, who previously founded Xradia, a world leading x-ray microscopy company that was later successfully acquired by Carl Zeiss as its x-ray microscopy unit. Sigray is well-funded by government grants and counts many of the leading international institutions (companies and universities) as its customers.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
